第一季的Mal Paxton居然辞职后就消失了，本来还期待出现Harriet和Mal联手对付Bailey的逆袭，有点失望。因此，虽然故事背景相似，但除了Harriet和Bailey之外，其他大部分关键角色都与第一季无关，故事的延续性上出现了断层。可以说，没看第一季也完全不影响看第二季。
当然，新一季剧情本身的悬念是足够的，只是包含的线索太多太杂，讲故事的节奏也一般，导致在最终真相大白之后，获得的惊喜感并没有那么强烈。
总的来说，这季的故事包含了这几个主要线索：
- 在20年前与Mina一家有关的误杀和掩盖处理之后，最终真相大白，背后的人一一浮出水面 - 在执行任务暗杀了几百号外国人后，Caroline决定以自己的生命为代价，用本土死亡来让公众意识到暗杀任务的存在 - 在海外行动队被偷袭后，通过外交努力和间谍行动，发现美国安插在巴基斯坦的CIA mole，将Markson救回国内，并发动复仇行动 - Helen和Mina一家之间的非法武器交易（比较无聊，本来还以为是主线的一部分，结果感觉就是故作玄虚凑时长）
中间一些剧情的推进，有些“神反应”的嫌疑。根据某些零碎证据，Harriet就能够直接做出正确的猜测，并展开后续调查行动，比如导弹来自于无人机、通过Bailey的通话记录就判断Bailey参与了掩盖真相并因此被杀、认为Berezin就是行动档案上的第三人和secret soldier等等。
不过，个人觉得，最大的问题还是讲故事的过程不像第一季那么有吸引力，有些平淡乏味，而且在最后the rabbit浮出水面时，没有什么特别的惊喜感，只是在心里“哦”了一下，庆幸整个故事要结束了。
和第一季一样，这里也把自己纯听基本不看字幕而写的英文梗概贴上，供参考。因为这一季的线索实在有点多，篇幅有点长。其实有些情节可以进一步省略，但考虑到故事逻辑的完整性，就保留下来了。
Main line - Planned strike to expose kill missions
Defense Minister Hellier and Chief of Defense Lockwood have been cooperating with US government to run a secret unit Pale Horse under the radar to assassinate high-value targets in Pakistan, with weaponized drones purchased from a US company Trebuchet. After participating in killing about 400 targets including innocent civilians, a pilot Caroline in the unit feels so sick about it, and decides to make it noticed to public, by using the same weapon to kill innocent people on Australian soil.
One night, she swaps the data brick with the shadow one that her colleague Conner built to fake a temporary system failure, and controls the drone to shoot a hellfire missile to Robbie's house in Davoren Park that she have chosen as target. Robbie happening to walk out alone survives the explosion, but the whole house with his family inside is blasted into pieces. After the accident, the military keeps chasing her to shut her out, while claiming it as a gas-leak explosion, in order to keep their kill missions in Pakistan from being exposed.
With Robbie's digital footprint that he was talking about a strike, he is arrested and suspected as working with a leftist group to stockpile explosives in his house. But it was probably planted by either Conner as Caroline's plan goes, or the government for the sake of covering up.
When searching in the Home Affair Database, Harriet happens to get hold of Bailey's detailed call logs, from which she links from Bailey to Lockwood and Sullivan, and thinks Bailey was killed for her involvement in some cover-up.
From Robbie's neighbors, she gets a video taken at the night of explosion, and notices a missile heading to the house before it was exploded, which could have come from a weaponized drone as she suspects. With the explosion video goes public, Robbie is released. And Lockwood has to disclose the top-secret drone killing program between US and Australia now, but he still points root cause of explosion to unexpected system failure.
With analysis on the lost drone they find back later, Lavelle from Trebuchet explains that the evidence indicates a hack to the UAV originated from IP address that can be traced to Pakistan secret service, trying to cover up their secret mission whenever possible, so that they can go on with opportunity in wars. While Prime Minister Garrity is planning to address the situation through diplomatic actions, his staffs push to declare a war against Pakistan, treating the hack as an invasion.
After Caroline manages to recover the UAV data, and put all data as well as her confession into a usb drive as proof, she asks to meet Garrity in person to present it by herself. But when she bends down to get it from her shoes, she is killed by snipers nearby for any potential danger. So public news still goes as that Pakistan hacked the drone, and foreign powers attacked citizens on Australian soil.
With pressure from Australia on CIA mole, US agrees to send military force to get Markson back, and plan an assault to Haqqani, while Australia government is waiting to make its decision through voting. At this critical moment that the public have been provoked and a war is coming, even after Harriethas managed to get the proof from Lockwood, she could not simply persuade anyone to stop the war, neither through Karen in the committee meeting, nor through Garrity in the cabinet.
Not surprisingly, the vote is passed in the committee, and the government is assembling forces to join operations in Pakistan. But Harriet gets Vaughn's help to upload the proof, so that the public can watch Caroline's confession by themselves, and at least have a chance to know what actually happened, behind what they were officially told by the government.
Side line - Past covered mistake
During an operation in Iraq about 20 years ago, Lieutenant Gattuso ordered to open fire on Mina's family as suspected insurgents. After the military realized it was a mistake, they decided to cover it up instead, and helped Mina migrate to Australia together with her husband Sami and her daughter Aliah. The classified action report signed by Bailey was redacted, so no one else can know what actually happened.
One day, Mina receives a classified action report signed by Bailey, regarding the past buried military operation in Iraq that has killed her family, from an anonymous account "the rabbit". Mina asks Harriet as her good friend to help her meet Bailey in person to question for this cover-up.
Under pressure from Mina multiple times, Bailey tells Harriet that she has called for an inquiry into the special force incident in Iraq. However, she is soon found murdered on a square at night, after Mina rides out on a motorbike to meet her, following messages sent to Mina's phone. With their past history, Mina becomes the suspect of Bailey's murder, and is arrested after an gun-firing accident in her house.
Later Andrew, Bailey's Chief of Staff, plays an audio recording in the meeting of Bailey and Levelle after the explosion in Davoren Park, in which Bailey told Levelle that she knew about what he has been doing, including Pale Horse operation, as well as the secret soldier in the Defense department, and she asked him to shut it down, otherwise she will tell Garrity. Harriet thinks that is why Bailey was killed by Levelle, and the secret soldier must be "the rabbit" who has sent classified document to Mina to get the secret disclosed, probably to his conscience.
From unredacted version of the action report by Vaughn, Harriet gets to know that Lockwood was part of the cover-up in Iraq. There are two other names in the report, one being Lieutenant Vincent Gattuso who has died in 2010, and the other being masked. When Harriet goes to question Lockwood, Berezin comes in, and asks him to tell her where the usb drive is. Harriet now knows Berezin is "the rabbit", and takes the usb drive to run away, while two of them are fighting with each other.
Probably with evidence from Harriet, Mina is released from the prison and cleared of all charges.
Side line - Safe house attack
In a situation room, the cabinet watch a video that an Australian squad in Pakistan was attacked in a safe house, and Corporal Markson was captured. Knowing about the secret kill missions in Pakistan, Bailey asks Lavelle from Trebuchet to shut it down, otherwise she will tell Garrity.
By hacking into the account linked to the advertisement in Bailey's social media account, Harriet and Vaughn find a military map of Pakistan, and realize that Bailey has been leaking intelligence to China, including location of the ambushed safe house.
Vaughn asks Thomas to do a full forensics on Bailey's account for her suspicious communication with China. From patterns of past events, he suspects that US has been intercepting Bailey's secret communication to China.
With a bug that Vaughn installed in US ambassador's office, he overhears US ambassador's plan for a secret meet, and finds out the man coming is asking for family of his elder brother Afshin Rahimi, a mid-level Haggani commander. It turns out that Afshin has been working with US as a CIA mole, which is why US didn't tell Australia about the safe house ambush, in order to protect their asset's identity. With this intelligence, Garrity manages to push US government to give up the CIA mole, rescue Markson back to Australia, and plan for an assault back to Haqqani as revenge.
Side line - Illegal weapon deals
Vaughn's wife, Helen, has been addicted to gambling for a while. In order for their savings, she has been doing illegal weapon deal with Sami.
Being hunted as suspect to Bailey's murder, Mina asks Harriet to deliver a birthday gift to Aliah, with location of next dead-drop embedded inside for Sami. Harriet takes a chance to take its photo, and follows to the location later. When Helen and Sami are about to do a weapon deal, Vaughn is coming up to try to kill Sami, but Sami escapes. Sami comes to their house later for either the money or the weapon. Vaughn gives him the weapon, and asks him to stay away from them since then.
In the report of drone hack data investigation to Vaughn, Thomas includes surveillance footage of their recent activity on illegal weapon deal. Probably with shame, he sends Helen to rehab, and turns in his resignation letter, but Garrity asks him to hold until the ongoing committee vote is finished.
